Notes from Flann et al. 2010 Taxon 59: Type - Baccharis ivifolia (‘ivaefolia’) L. (F. baccharoides Cass. in Cuvier , Dict. Sci. Nat. 17: 54 1820, nom. illeg., Conyza ivifolia (‘ivaefolia’) (L.) Desf. 1804, non Burm. f. 1768, Erigeron ivifolius (‘ivaefolius’) (L.) Sch. Bip.). Note: Sometimes regarded as belonging to Conyza Less. 1832, nom. cons., which it would then displace. In fact it does not, however, represent a threat. On the one hand, as one is led to to conclude from the survey of Nesom (2008), Conyza is currently not available for use on both taxonomic and nomenclatural grounds, except perhaps in a very restricted sense (Nesom’s “group B”). On the other hand Conyza, if it can be sensibly redefined, is to be a New World genus, whereas Baccharis ivifolia, as typified by Reveal (in Jarvis & Turland 1998), is a S. African plant. We prefer, for the time being, to treat elements that had been referred to Conyza in Erigeron sensu lato. In the future, a better understanding of the systematics of this complex may well result in a revival of the name Fimbrillaria for a genus including Erigeron ivifolius [= Conyza scabrida DC.].
